Black Friday (Afternoon)

The second part of my Black Friday was spent with the Occupiers in McPherson Square. Up until now I have been focusing on getting consistent, pop-up-studio style images. I decided to mix it up and shoot some environmental portraits.

The pictured occupiers were nice enough to let me photograph then in and around their tents. The tarps created a very interesting light that is a bit hard to describe.

Enjoy!

Occupy Halloween

I have always been fascinated by halloween. Some of you may remember a series I did this time last year on Halloween.

I wanted to see how the people of the Occupy movement were celebrating. Surpassingly, most protestors were not in costume. But as one occupier pointed out, “Most of us are in costume every day!”

You can see more Occupy DC portraits here.

Faces of the Occupation, Part 1 of ?

I spent this past Saturday night in McPherson Square, Washington, DC. Like New York and so many other cities around the world, DC is being ‘Occupied.’ What ties the protests together is a general feeling of discontent, and a feeling that these protests could be the force that spurs change. I must admit, after spending the better part of a night with these dedicated people, I am inclined to believe that change is coming.

This post is the first of what I expect to be a series of posts. I intend to go back.

Be sure to check the cut lines, some of my subjects had quite interesting stories.

A protestor  rolls up his flag around a homemade flagpole. In an effort to reduce waste, this protestor purchased a porcelain plate.Chris Townsend, Political Action Director of United Electrical , Radio & Machine Workers of America (UE) was on hand to lend support.Michael Patterson, an Iraqi War Vet, was recently removed by police while protesting at the Rayburn building. (Story)This protester, who is only 16, had the blessing of his parents.  He admits they worry about him. Having just arrived from North Carolina, this protestor intended to stay for the duration.

The Best Friends Day Odyssey, Part Four of Four

Best Friends Day is a Hard Core music festival in Richmond, VA. As I learned last year, it attracts some pretty interesting people.

It is an all weekend event, with concerts going Thursday through Sunday. I went mostly to shoot portraits, but decided to document the experience as well.

The portraits you see in this post are a combination of images I shot Friday night (Shot outside the Canal Club), and images from Saturday at Hadad’s Lake.

I had some pretty bad luck, but also got some great photos. I really hope you enjoy them.

A Yearbook Unlike Any Other

A few weeks ago I journeyed to New Orelans, home of my friend, rapper and producer, G-Eazy.  The reason for my trip (other than drinking incredible coffee) was to shoot album art for G’s latest release “The Endless Summer.”  You might remember the images I made for his album “The Outsider” from this post.

We wanted to do something different for his album, so I came up with the idea to make a sort of yearbook that featured girls representing songs on the album.  I would tell you which songs go to which girl, but that would ruin the fun!  Because the samples used in the production of the songs had a vintage feel, the yearbook took on a very similar vibe, mimicking yearbook photos and typography from the 50s. Be sure to check my cameo on page 7.

Check the Yearbook out Here

The design was done by the multi-talented G-Eazy (Gerald Gillum in the Credits).

Be sure to download the album and see the video single here.   I lent some of my grip skills to the video, directed by Tyler Yee (@tyleryee), who is great at what he does.

Big thanks to G (@G_Eazy) Devon (@DevTheGirl) and Matt (@2Mattyb) for having me down!

Portraits and a Church Service

I am working on a documentary.  One that I am not yet at liberty to talk about at length.  What I will say is that I will working on the cinematic side of things, while also doing still photos.  These are three portraits that I took during our most recent day of filming as well as a few images from a church service we filmed.

As things materialize with the documentary I will let you know.  Sorry to be so mysterious!

More photos after the jump!

In other news, my new site is up.  In case you hadn’t already seen it: BobbyBruderle.com
